Wardley made her name in the Hobie Cat 16 class, where she won numerous titles, and went on to became a skipper in the Sydney to Hobart Race at the age of just 19 years. Now, she is the acknowledged expert on the Volvo Ocean 65, having spent thousands of hours racing the boat and working on the fleet’s subsequent refit at the Boatyard. With two Volvo Ocean Races under her belt, having sailed onboard Amer Sports Too in 2001-02 and Team SCA in 2014-15, she joins Turn the Tide on Plastic looking to make a bigger splash than ever.

    • Turn the Tide on Plastic. Annalise Murphy A second-generation Olympic sailor, Annalise jumps into the Volvo Ocean Race fresh from winning a silver medal at the 2016 Games in Rio. She previously finished fourth at London 2012 and won the 2013 European Championships in front of thousands of adoring fans in her hometown of Dublin. Her mother, Cathy McAleavy, competed in the 470 class at the Olympics in Seoul in 1988.

    • Turn the Tide on Plastic. Bleddyn Mon. The only Welsh sailor in the 2017-18 edition, Mon joins the Volvo Ocean Race fresh from being part of Land Rover BAR in the 2017 America's Cup. In his teenage years, he became a World and European champion in the 29er class – and with plenty of Extreme Sailing Series experience to his name at just 25, he brings top-level racing credentials to Turn the Tide on Plastic.

Francesca Clapcich Francesca has competed at two Olympic Games – London 2012 and Rio 2016 – in the Laser Radial and 49er FX classes, becoming World Champion in the latter in 2015. She is new to offshore sailing but is delighted to step up to the Volvo Ocean Race as part of a campaign skippered by her hero, Dee Caffari

Bernardo Freitas With some key racing experience behind him, Portugal's Bernardo Freitas turns his attention to the Volvo Ocean Race keen to develop his big boat and offshore skills. An Olympian at London 2012, he has also competed in the World Match Racing Tour and in the Extreme Sailing Series.

    • Turn the Tide on Plastic. Lucas Chapman Although he's a Volvo Ocean Race rookie, Lucas has bags of experience across many different types of boat. He's completed the Sydney-Hobart five times and spent many hours onboard the Volvo Ocean 65s completing delivery trips and corporate sailing in the build up to the 2017-18 edition.

Henry Bomby Bomby is one of Britain's most promising young sailors and comes into the Volvo Ocean Race having competed in four Solitaire du Figaro campaigns as well as over two years racing onboard MOD70 trimaran Phaedo 3. With over 30,000 nm under his belt, the Artemis Offshore Academy graduate makes the step up to the Volvo Ocean Race in 2017-18 keen to tick off a long-held round-the-world ambition.

    • Turn the Tide on Plastic. Dee Caffari. Caffari makes her debut as a Volvo Ocean Race skipper having competed as part of the all-female Team SCA in 2014-15. She's a woman who knows her ocean racing, having also competed in the Vendée Globe, the Global Challenge, the Barcelona World Race and four transatlantic races. She is the only woman to have sailed solo around the world in both directions (east about and west about) as well as being the only female to have sailed around the world three times, non-stop. Caffari also holds the female crewed monohull Round Britain and Ireland speed record, a record she established in June 2009, with her SCA crewmate Sam Davies.
