An accomplished sailor who has competed in three Olympic Games, two Volvo Ocean Races and was named ISAF Sailor of the Year, Carolijn Brouwer returns for a third crack at the Volvo Ocean Race. Her stunning speed driving the boat in 2014-15, particularly in In-Port Races and Leg Starts, caught the eye of Charles Caudrelier and she is now eager for a real shot at the title.

One of France’s best offshore sailors, Charles made the step from success in the Solitaire du Figaro and the Transat Jacques-Vabre to play a key role onboard winning boat Groupama in 2011-12. He returned the following race as skipper of Dongfeng Race Team, writing a new chapter in China’s sailing history – and lines up with a solid, mixed crew for a third consecutive edition in 2017-18. Charles is tough, honest and experienced - and he is willing to share his skills with the Chinese sailors to help progress towards a full Chinese crew in future races.

Chen Jinhao 'Horace'. Dongfeng Race Team.
Horace grew up by the sea in Shenzen and has sailed all his life. He had already taken part in the America’s Cup World Series and the Extreme Sailing Series before being selected for Dongfeng Race Team in the 2014-15 edition and racing seven legs.

A Volvo Ocean Race winner in 2014-15, New Zealand’s Daryl returns to the race for a fourth time – and is delighted that his decade-long ‘love affair’ with the Volvo Ocean Race is set to continue. He joins up with Dongfeng Race Team seeking a second consecutive win.

Bouttell has completed three Solitaire du Figaro campaigns, finishing 1st Rookie in 2013. He joined Dongfeng Race Team as shore crew in 2014-15 before the skipper asked him to race onboard for Leg 3 into Sanya – an incredible debut which saw Dongfeng take the honours racing into their home port.

A star of French solo sailing, Beyou finished third in this year’s Vendee Globe and has won the Solitaire du Figaro three times. For Beyou, life as part of Dongfeng Race Team’s squad comes as a welcome change of pace after racing alone around the world on his Open 60, Maître Coq.

Wolf was introduced to the sport of sailing by his roommate at Xiamen University and soon started to dream of being an international racing sailor, sticking two post-it notes on his wall: ‘Volvo Ocean Race’ and ‘America’s Cup’. Racing onboard for six legs in 2014-15 was a big learning curve for the Chinese sailor – and he returns stronger, more confident and with a renewed focus ahead of 2017-18.

Marie Riou. Dongfeng Race Team.
A Volvo Ocean Race newbie, Riou comes into the event fresh from competing in the 2016 and 2012 Olympic Games. She’s a multiple world champion, having made a name for herself in the Nacra 17 class alongside long-time sailing partner Billy Besson – and links up with Dongfeng keen to test her mettle offshore.
Pascal Bidegorry. Dongfeng Race Team.
Bidégorry is one of France’s most accomplished sailors with a string of victories and records to his name, including the Solitaire du Figaro and Transat Jacques Vabre. He has raced across the Atlantic more than 30 times but only chose to race around the planet on the Volvo Ocean Race with Dongfeng Race Team in 2014-15, quickly becoming a firm fan favourite due to some brave navigational calls.
