Free of the Traffic Separation Schemes (TSS) Alvimedica turns northeast towards the Denmark peninsula in first while the rest of the fleet eventually does the same.
May 05,2015. Leg 6 to Newport onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 16. The Newport Volvo Ocean Race Village is officially OPEN,according to (L to R) Ryan Houston,Charlie Enright,Nick Dana,Seb Marsset,Mark Towill,and Alberto Bolzan. With less than 500 miles to Newport the complex winds again lighten before another cold front and an overnight forecast calling for the return of stronger winds.
April 27,2015. Leg 6 to Newport onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 08. The on-deck trio of Mark Towill (driving),Alberto Bolzan (seated),and Dave Swete (standing) joke about magic tricks,one of the many random discussions that four hours of time together will bring out. The entire fleet converges on the northeast corner of Brazil and little in the way of positions have changed.
April 20,2015. Leg 6 to Newport onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 01. The fleet continues east in a dying breeze,all still within sight of each other. 15 days until the Volvo Ocean Race village in Newport,Rhode Island,officially opens.
April 5,2015. Leg 5 to Itajai onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 18. Alberto Bolzan smiles at his unique sock-drying technique. A significant fleet-wide tack points everyone northwest towards Itajai and the finish line,first through fourth within ten miles of each other.
April 3,2015. Leg 5 to Itajai onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 16. A light morning gives the team a chance to catch their breath and dry out the boat,only before another 36 hours of forecasted heavy winds to return. Stu Bannatyne enjoying a return to the sailing and northerly progress towards Itajai.
March 31,2015. Leg 5 to Itajai onboard Team Alvimedica. Day 13. Team Alvimedica is the first boat to round the fabled Cape Horn before turning north to an immediately different environment--light air and sunshine. February 12,2015. Leg 4 to Auckland onboard Dongfeng Race Team. Day 4. One year ago today Jin Hao Chen (aka Horace) met Charles Caudrelier at a ship yard in Hong Kong where the boat was being assembled. He couldn't speak a word of English. Now he's living the dream. He speaks a little English too.
