    • © Ronald Koelink - foto-nautiek.nl....Bowman Phil Jameson (NZL) Ericsson 4,skippered by Torben Grael (BRA)....The Rotterdam Gate Race,was completed this morning as the fleet passed by the Netherlands.....The gate race course was marked out by two rounding points requiring the fleet to complete a reaching loop. The idea was for the times set by the Volvo Open 70s to be logged and for professionals and amateurs to challenge those times when they were let loose on the course once the fleet had passed.....The 70s completed the 3.6 nautical mile time trial in 20-25 knots with the wind at 220. Ericsson 3,labouring at the back of the fleet in the Leg 8 standings,set the fastest time of 12 minutes 40 seconds. Thereafter the order was PUMA (14:03),Telefonica Black (14:35),Telefonica Blue (14:56),Green Dragon (14:58),Delta Lloyd (15:03),Ericsson 4 (15:11).....The Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 will be the 10th running of this ocean marathon. Starting from Alicante in Spain,on 4 October 2008,it will,for the first time,take in Cochin,India,Singapore and Qingdao,China before finishing in St Petersburg,Russia for the first time in the history of the race.     • For EDITORIAL USE only,please credit: Guy Salter/Ericsson 4/Volvo Ocean Race....Phil Jameson Grinding on Ericsson 4 as they set a new 24 hour record....At 1310 GMT 29/1008,Ericsson 4 (Torben Grael/BRA) obliterated the 24-hour record run for a monohull when the team recorded a run of 593.23 nautical miles.....The previous record (562.96 nm) was set by ABN AMRO TWO/Sebastian Josse/FRA during leg two of the previous Volvo Ocean Race in 2006. The new mark is subject to ratification by the World Sailing Speed Record Council. ....PUMA (Ken Read/USA),in second place,has covered 561 nm,just short of ABN AMRO TWOÕs record.
